শ্রীগুরু দুর্গাপ্রসন্ন পরমহংসদেব
পরীরাজকাচার্যবর শ্রী শ্রী দুর্গাপ্রসন্ন পরমহংসদেব 1891 খ্রিস্টাব্দে 30 অক্টোবর রাসপূর্নিমা শুভদিনে বরিশাল জেলার (বর্তমানে বাংলাদেশে) রাজাপুর গ্রামে পিতা উমচরণ চক্রবর্তী (অদ্বৈত প্রভুর বংশের একজন সিদ্ধা তন্ত্র সাধক) এবং মা চিন্তামণি দেবী (বর্তমানে ভগবান আশুতোষের অবিষ্ট ভক্ত) - বাড়িতে জন্মে ছিলেন।
শৈশবকাল থেকেই তিনি প্রতিটি সহচরদের প্রতি সেবার মনোভাব লালন করেছিলেন। সকলের দুঃখ-দুর্দশা চিরতরে দূর করার জন্য তাঁর আগ্রহ তাকে তাঁর গুরু শ্রী শ্রী নিগমানন্দ পরমহংসের কাছে নিয়ে এসেছিল (আসাম কোকিলমুখ শান্তি আশ্রমে - থেকে ধর্মীয় পাঠ করেছিলেন) ; যিনি তাকে তত্ক্ষণাত বিশ্ব-সেবক (সর্বজনীন সেবক) হিসাবে চিহ্নিত করেছিলেন এবং পরবর্তীকালে বিভিন্ন আধ্যাত্মিক কার্যক্রম মাধ্যমে তাঁকে গাইড করেছিলেন। অবশেষে তাকে নিজে গুরু হতে বলছেন, যা তিনি অনিচ্ছা সত্ত্বেও মেনে নিয়েছিলেন।
নিগমানন্দাজীর নির্দেশ অনুসারে তিনি শব-সাধন (মৃতদেহের সাথে তান্ত্রিক অনুশীলন )ও করেছিলেন এবং পরে গুরুদেব থেকে বিচ্ছেদের পরে তিনি যোগ-সাধনা অনুশীলন করেছিলেন যার মাধ্যমে তিনি প্রথমে সাবিকল্প সমাধিতে পৌঁছেছিলেন এবং মহাবিশ্বে সমস্ত চৌদ্দ জগতের (চতুর্দশ-লোক) অন্বেষণ করেছিলেন। আত্মার উপলব্ধি (আত্মমান) করেছিলেন |
এই ধারণাটিকে তাঁর মনের মধ্যে রেখে তিনি কেবলমাত্র পার্থিব দুর্দশাগুলি অপসারণের জন্য প্রার্থনা ও প্রশংসা করতে শুরু করেছিলেন। তবে সমস্ত করুণাময় গুরু তাঁর মনে ধারণা নিয়ে এসেছিল যা তাকে চালিত করে একটি নতুন প্রত্যাদেশের দিকে নিয়ে যেতে|
যদিও তিনি একজন কালী সাধক (হিন্দু দেবী কালীমাতার শিষ্য) ছিলেন, তিনি অন্যান্য ধর্মীয় লোকদের জন্যও অনেক বেশি মমতাশীল ছিলেন। খ্রিস্টান ধর্মের সারাংশ জানতে ও অন্যান্য ধর্মের উপর জ্ঞান সমৃদ্ধ করতে খ্রিস্টান বিশপ ফাদার ওডিনহোর সাথে দেখা করেছিলেন। তিনি আজমির শরীফেও গিয়েছিলেন এবং মুসলিম ধর্মের অন্তর্দৃষ্টি শিখতে পীর সেকান্দার আলীর সাথে দেখা করেছিলেন।অগ্রসরমান বছরগুলিতে অন্যের দুঃখ প্রশমিত করার আন্তরিক ইচ্ছা তাঁর মনকে কাঁপতে শুরু করে।
1925-26 তিনি নিরবিকল্প সমাদির (অর্থ দেবতার চরণে আত্মার নিরপেক্ষ ত্যাগ)অনুভূতকরেছিলেন।1955 সালে তাঁর গুরু কালিকানন্দ পরমহংস -- তাঁকে “প্রারিব্রাজক আচার্যবর শ্রী শ্রী দুর্গাপ্রসন্ন পরমহংসদেব “নামকরণকরেছিলেন। তিনি সম্মানজনকপরমহংস উপাধিতে ভূষিত হন,|
1947 সালের ভারত বিভাগের সময়, রাজাপুর জন্মস্থান পূর্ব পাকিস্তানের অধীনে ছিল, 1950 সালে তিনি বরিশালে দাঙ্গা এবং গণহত্যা ভীষণ মানসিক কষ্ট পেয়েছিলেন। বাংলায় বিভাগের দিনগুলিতে, তিনি তাঁর স্থানান্তরিত ভক্তদের দুর্দশা ও অসুবিধাগুলি সহ্য করেছিলেন। দেশ বিভাগের পরিণতি উপলব্ধি করে তিনি কলকাতায় এসে 15 রুপ চাঁদ রায় স্ট্রিটে তাঁর নিবেদিত ভক্ত নানিগোপাল দত্তের সহায়তায় গৃহহীন অভিবাসীদের আশ্রয়কেন্দ্রটি চালু করেছিলেন। এটিই "শ্রী গুরু সংঘ" চালনার শুরু ; পরে এটি তার নতুন ভবনে নাকতলায় চলে আসে এবং বর্তমানে এটি আশ্রমের কেন্দ্রীয় কার্যালয়ের দায়িত্ব পালন করে।

Sri Guru Durga Prasanna Paramhansa Dev
Since his early childhood, he nurtured the spirit of service towards every fellow being. His eagerness to remove forever the sufferings of all brought him to his guru Shri Shri Nigamananda Paramhamsa (then residing at Assam Kokilamukh Shanti Ashram) who immediately identified him as a Vishwa-Sevak (universal servant) and later guided him through various spiritual austerities (details are unknown) finally asking him to be a Guru himself, which he reluctantly accepted.
According to Nigamanandaji's instructions, he also practiced shav-sadhana (Tantrik practice with a corpse), and later after parting from Gurudev, he practiced yoga-sadhana through which he first reached savikalpa samadhi and explored all the fourteen worlds (Chaturdashi-lok) in the universe along with the realization of the soul (Atman).
Keeping this idea within his mind, he began to pray and sing praises solely for the removal of worldly miseries. But all-merciful gurus came into his mind and they began to lead him towards a new revelation as it was bodied forth by him.
Although he was a known Kali Sadhak (Disciple of Hindu Devi Kalamata) he was much more compassionate for other religious people as well. To know the essence of the Christian religion he met Christian Bishop Father Odinho to enrich his knowledge of other religions. He also went to Ajmer Sharif and met Peer Sakendar Ali to learn insight of the Muslim religion.
With the advancing years, a sincere wish to mitigate the sorrows of others began to shake his mind.
1925-26 he attained Nirvikalpa Samadi means an absolute sacrifice of the soul to the feet of god. In the year 1955 his mentor Kalikanada Paramhamsa conferred the prestigious Paramahamsa title, he was renamed Sri Paribrajak Acharyabar Sri Durgaprasanna Paramhamsadev.
During the 1947 India Partition, Rajapur the birthplace fall under east Pakistan, 1950 he found riots and massacres at Barishal. During partition days in Bengal, he experienced the plight and difficulties of his migrating disciples. Apprehending the predicament of partition he came to Kolkata and opened a shelter for the homeless migratory people with the help of his devoted disciple Nanigopal Dutta at 15 Rup Chand Roy Street. This is the start of plying of “Sri Guru Sangha”. Later it moved to Naktala in its new building and presently serving as the central office of the Ashram.
He was one of the greatest gurus of recent times who devoted and sacrificed his entire life for the upliftment of the poor who migrated from East Bengal. His emphasized concept of (“Guru Deva Daya Koro Dinojane” – means serving to the poor means serving to the god.) brought much relief to the poor community of people who were striving for their existence. After his demise on 30th August 1975. His followers are carrying his advice for building our society which will not only usher in peace but prosperity as well.
